Currently the Director of the Institute of Tropical Medicine at the University of São Paulo, Prof. Dr Ester Cerdeira Sabino has been a coordinator of several national and international multi-center projects with support from FAPESP, CNPQ, National Institute of Health in the USA and Medical Research Center in England. She has published more than 200 articles in international magazines and mentored 30 students at postgraduate level. A graduate in medicine from her current workplace, Ester completed her PhD in Immunology in 1994 on HIV-1. Coordinator of CADDE (Joint Brazil-UK Center for Discovery, Diagnosis, Genomics and Epidemiology of Arbovirus), a network of researchers working with epidemics, now responsible for new coronavirus genetic analysis, officially classified as SARS-CoV-2, she recently led a team of Brazilian researchers that took only 48 hours to sequence the genome of the novel coronavirus.
