Independent Innovation Policy Consultant, Joint Institute for Innovation Policy
An eminent policy analyst of European Union’s science, technology and innovation diplomacy, Jos Leijten has a master’s degree in urban and regional planning coupled with a PhD in technology assessment. After having worked as a strategist for technology policy for more than a decade, Dr Leijten joined Joint Institute for Innovation Policy (JIIP) – a joint venture of four renowned Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) from four different European countries: TNO (The Netherlands), VTT (Finland), Joanneum Research (Austria) and Tecnalia (Spain) – as Director in 2008. JIIP aims to integrate activities and to collaborate for the support of internationalisation of innovation systems and innovation policies. Working as an independent consultant since 2014, Dr Jos Leijten’s latest paper published in European Journal of Futures Research explores the future roles and development of innovation diplomacy as the outcome of interactions between the evolving characteristics of science, technology and innovation on the one hand and of international relations and foreign policies on the other.
